Aviation Vacation
United States
Приєднався 1 лис 2011
Hi, my name is Greg. I live at the Lynden Airpark (38W) in NW Washington State. It is approximately 15 miles north of Bellingham, WA, and sits only four miles south of the Canadian border. This channel is mostly about traveling via general aviation and flying IFR (instruments). I fly a 2003 Diamond Star DA40. I have owned it since 2014. The majority of my flight time is in DA40's. I rented one for eight years before buying this one. I'm a retired telecommunications engineer. I worked at Verizon Wireless for 27 years. Have been enjoying retirement since 2019. I hope you enjoy my channel. Please subscribe and comment.
Chelan 4th of July Weekend with friends - Why GA is better than the airlines
We flew from Lynden Airpark (38W) to hot and smoky Lake Chelan (S10) and met up with our friends who also flew in. We did some wine tasting , had some nice meals and enjoyed some live 90's music. I've listed a few reasons why traveling via General Aviation has many advantages over the airlines.

We've been traveling back from the Airpark to the old neighborhood (Paine Field) quite a bit for various reasons. Here is one of the trips. The weather was completely different in the morning than it was in late afternoon.
Flying Across the Cascade Mountains for a Bike Ride
Переглядів 199Місяць тому
I flew to the Chelan Airport (S10) to go for a bike ride with a fellow cyclist pilot friend. The weather was perfect and the mountains were spectacular. The flight was about 120 nautical miles which took me about one hour in the Diamond.
Alaska Airlines Aviation Day 2024 @ KSEA
Переглядів 372Місяць тому
I had the great privilege of participating in the annual Alaska Airlines Aviation Day this year at SeaTac Airport. It was quite an experience flying into a very busy airport usually only frequented by airliners. Alaska Airlines had everything organized so well. 15 GA aircraft flew in for the event. Air traffic control had a list of our tail numbers and a time slot for us to arrive. It was great...

Airpark Adventure: Early Morning Breakfast Flight to Orcas Island
Переглядів 3912 місяці тому
I wanted to take advantage of a beautiful morning so I departed the Airpark early and made a short solo flight to the Eastsound Airport (KORS), on Orcas Island in the San Juans. I tried to get my wife, friends and neighbors to go with me on short notice but they all turned me down because they were busy. Winds aloft were actually pretty high (almost 30 knots in some places) but it was nice and ...
International Flight to Victoria, BC - Cool Aviation Museum
Переглядів 2353 місяці тому
I flew from the Lynden Airpark (38W) to Victoria International Airport (CYYJ) with my friend Tom @gingertheplane. It was his first time flying to Canada in his plane. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the Dakota Cafe which is adjacent to the Victoria Flying Club. The VFC has been in existence since 1946 and is a very active flight training school. It was a beautiful sunny day with lots of air traffic....
Tried to Scud Run - Didn't Make It! 😧

My wife had a meeting in Seattle so I flew her down to Paine Field where a friend picked her up. Conditions were worse than forecast but I had an IFR flight plan on file. The freezing level was fairly low, about 3,000 feet, which complicated things. I departed the airpark and flew VFR until I got close to Whidbey NAS airspace where I knew I could get a clearance at a fairly low altitude below t...

That bird on departure was pretty close!
Another successful flying vacation adventure by the Bell's... !
Thanks for the great video! Now I need to visit S10. :-) What video and audio equipment do you use? The video and sound are perfect.
Thank you. Just a GoPro with the Nflightcam cable
That's awesome -- and I may have been a little off on the 6 miles!
An Interesting video on how airlines make profits. Eye opening. ua-cam.com/video/29o-QsZAhAQ/v-deo.htmlsi=8yisoMG4TniIwJE6
Hi Greg, you could start your own airline, flying your own airplane 😉.
Way too complicated. So much legal stuff, paperwork, liability. It would take all the fun out of it.
@@GregBell58 I have heard it from airline pilots that they used to love flying until flying became their job.
….and you can bring firearms on board without having to go through all of the TSA hassles.
And it's chilean, no argentinian.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_Twin_Bonanza
It’s called a Beechcraft baron btw .. not twin bonanza
The Baron is a different airplane than the one in the video.
amazing
Correction: 180 gallons!
Also kmown as a Baron? Or is twin Bonanza a brand of its own?
Pre-Baron
Money buys happiness
I appreciate how the approach over the trees looks as low as it feels when I did it.
flight back looked like much better weather than the flight down. 73!
You are correct sir. My plane knows the way really well now.
@@GregBell58 BTW...I'm officially retired now. Lets GO! 🙂
Is that a 1/2 way marker? Nice!
Yes!
The oh-so-subtle differences between Lynden and SEA here. Really nice job!
god bless🙂
Bouncy. 😀
Nice ride and shiny new paint at S10.
The ATC seemed a bit moody. Looks like you made him do more clicking around his computer system to get your info in because you didn't file a flight plan which was totally legal of course.
The Canadians are great. They are privatized. Not federal employees.
awesome Greg
Thanks Per
Evidently good VHF propagation to KSEA 😊
Airport 400’ MSL. Top of tower about 200’ AGL. I was at 3,500’ MSL. Do the math.
Where the trees on the right at 0:15 an issue, or was it a no-factor and the camera angle makes it look closer? Nice touchdown btw :)
epic!
What an awesome experience! Thank you for showing us what it was like!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super cool footage! Glad to meet up there. Thanks for sharing your aircraft for the day!
Great video. We stayed at an airbnb on the island a couple of years ago and took a little kayak trip right out of that harbor. Don't blame you for loving it there. Hope we can make it back some day.
Wonderful video, Greg! You captured the very well orchestrated approach and departure as well as the amazing event put on by Alaska Airlines and all the volunteers. Many, many kids were given a great introduction to aviation this day. #aviation #KSEA
Did you get the job with Alaska? HAHA
I keep thinking I want a job, but then I come to my senses
My heart was beating faster when you were getting rocked behind the big jet... Really nice to see your experience.
A quick application of full down elevator prevented me from going airborne. I thought I was far enough back but apparently not. Perhaps I should have offset.
Thats pretty awesome!
Welcome to my home airport 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I would love to collaborate with you. Beautiful video. Haven’t fly there yet. Been to Friday harbor a lot. Great video. Appreciate you filming it.
Nicely done!
Cool History lesson! I have yet to make it to Roche, hope to change that soon.
Nice. Enjoyed it. Food looked good too.
You mention that in your opinion flying is the best way to get to the island. I've always felt a bit anxious before each flight, thinking about the "what if's". I used to worry about what if my airplane has some malfunction right before take off from a remote airport without services. Not like you can put an airplane on a tow truck.
It’s not THAT remote. A mechanic could be flown in or take a ferry. It’s only $$$
Voice-over - nice new touch, makes your video look more professional. Funny moment at 5:22 - you mention John Wayne the actor followed by your selfie 😀
lol. I look just like him
Thanks
Excellent video! Nice job, great flying.
Beautiful weather for this. Channel is looking very good.
The border procedure was very interesting.
Congrats on the new home! I recently flew into your Air Park to see Ginger. I wish your runway had lights, VASI and ILS!!! ua-cam.com/video/-zP10ARY0BI/v-deo.htmlsi=K2Aavo4qdJD5TPDX
Would love to hear/see more about your cruise. We are holding a cabin for a SA / Antarctic HAL cruise for this coming January.

If you ever need someone to help balance it out in the right seat I'm down, and Ill buy your lunch! haha. :D I miss flying
Nice video! I make that run to Orcas frequently too. Did you have to re run the W&B for the return trip? That looked like a lot of breakfast😮
Well no since it was just me and partial fuel but I did skip lunch!
What’s the story on the bikes? Looks like the door had a code? Any signs on where to find them or just have to know/ask?
Call the airport manager listed in the AFD or on ForeFlight. Very friendly
Congrats on reaching 1000+ subs, Greg! 100k subs mark is just around the corner!
That trip by car might have taken up to 3 hrs each way depending on ferry schedule.
That sounds about right. 1-1/4 hours each way to Anacortes Ferry terminal plus wait time and about an hour ferry ride each way. That's if the ferry doesn't break down and if they have enough crew to sail. I used about 4 gallons of AVGAS which is cheaper than the ferry toll.
